Fly Snowbirds, Fly!

Fly Snowbirds, Fly!

I have a love-hate relationship with Mr. Punxsutawney Phil. When he doesn’t see his shadow, love and when he does see his shadow, hate. I know it’s really not fair to blame a groundhog for my winter blues, but it’s a decent coping method. Our complicated relationship aside, our friend, or in this case our foe, saw his shadow and we’ve got six more weeks of winter ahead of us.

Instead of heading back into hibernation like Phil, I booked a flight. I write this sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean in Nassau, Bahamas. Today, the chill of winter is a distant memory. When I finish writing this, I will head to the beach and sip a Bahama Mama. Come Saturday, I will put my parka on and grin and bear the cold for 5 more weeks, but at least I’ll have a tan.

Need a break too? Read on to find out our favorite winter escapes that you need to book ASAP.

While the weather won’t be much warmer across the pond, it’s still a great time to visit the City of Love. With a cafe on every corner and history in every nook and cranny, Paris is a great city to tuck yourself into. Also, flights in February are as low as $380 roundtrip from New York City. Stay for free and live like a local by arranging a home exchange.

Trade the cold blue for the red-hot in Arizona. This state is a perfect trip for the adventure seeker, the spirit junkie and everything in between. Balance your soul in the vortexes or walk the Devil's Bridge in Sedona. Paddle through Antelope Canyon or road trip through red rock country.

Escape to the various resort towns or find one off the beaten path for a few margaritas, incredible service, and a dip in the sea. Try Tulum for a break from the tourists, but be warned, New Yorkers flock to this sandy town in the winter- you might run into your yoga instructor. Oaxaca, a good-vibes only Mexican surf town, is a little less know.

A quick flight from anywhere on the East Coast, Miami is a snowbird’s paradise. Head to South Beach for a taste of the good life, the Wynwood District for modern art, or live like Sinatra for a day on Ocean Drive. From historic resorts like the Eden Roc to boutique hotels like the Betsy, there’s something for everyone in the 305.

Booking a flight not an option? Get on the subway and explore a new neighborhood. Brooklyn is busting with new boutique hotels and a killer food scene that’s giving Manhattan a run for its money. The Box, Wythe Hotel and The William Vale are just a few of the great boutique hotels in BK. If you’re not based in New York, find your perfect staycation in your own neck of the woods. A change in perspective may be all you need!

If you still need an extra boost this winter, try adding vitamin D to your diet or consider investing in a Natural Spectrum Energy Lamp. Both can help you fight fatigue, regain focus, and improve your mood. Just. 5. More. weeks- YOU CAN DO IT!
